But for graphics and music, a paid version is now available on itch.io Not just generated geometry - a whole simulated world. The Steam version is an amazing feat, but still has some serious issues that need to be addressed. The only difference is that the steam version has workshop support, and comes with graphics and sound already set up. Dwarf Fortress Classic has been available for free on for years. Its not really clear if community tilesets will be able to make use of it in the Classic version or if enhanced community tilesets will be exclusive to the Premium version. ![]() Going forward, classic and steam versions will both receive the same updates and have the same features. The steam version tileset is not just a 'tileset' but uses a lot of technology that was developed purely for it and that currently existing tilesets thus dont have access to. The most recent free version is also missing adventure mode, health screen, persistent logs etc. I just purchased Dwarf Fortress via steam and this is my first playthrough.
